i bought an ipod touch … the main reason was to have it on the flight to LA (maybe later more …), and it rocks for videos. Back to the plane: If you ever have to make a really long trip on plane, and probably the aussis will lough now, it’s quite boring. On good flights you have some kind of entertainment systen, yes even in the economy class. So you have youre screen, and if your lucky enough you can even chose the movie you want to see. I will not mention the braindead suckers who invented the 2 plug headphones on the plane, but i have to …. WTF is wrong with you?
Blue Ray vs. HD DVD, VHS vs. Betamax, 3,5mm vs. dual pin … FSCK YOU! Whoever is responsible for this: never ever meet me. The headphones you got in the planes are so crappy that your ears are start to bleed, literally. So i ordered an adaptor at amazon before the flight, but they where not able to deliver it in 3 days, and i checked “overnight delivery”!. FSCK Amazon, my rant goes directly to theire feedback system, which probably means /dev/null …
Ok, back to the plane. I was lucky and could watch 2 movies which where new to me and not bad. Thats 4 hours max. of a 11h flight. The rest i watched stuff on my ipod, and now back to topic.
The ipod touch is great. I bought the 16GB one, and in preparation of the flight if filled it with 4GB of music and 4GB of movies. One great feature of itunes is the prodcast thing. I selected a lot of interesting stuff which saved the flight. I just have to figure out how to upload the stuff without fsckn itunes. I hate it, i hate windows, not to mention mac os x (which i really used the first time to jailbreak the ipod).
So what is this rant about? It’s not about the video feature of the ipod, this is really great. The screen is quite small, but the quality is good. No, remember how this piece of #*?! is called: ipod
This makes you think that you can hear music with it. Yes you can, but ….
* The quality really sucks. If i hear the same mp3s on my crappy cheap laptop they sound much better. And yes, i have good earphones.
* you have no fast access on the equalizer. Some songs are just bad mixed, and together with the crappy sound of the touch it really sucks
* you have no fast access to control the device. Let me go into detail: You usually have on most player devices a “play”, “stop/pause”, “fwd”, “rwd” _AND_ “volume” buttons. Guess what, on the touch you have 2 buttons, “sleep mode” and “home”. Yes, I’m aware of the “double click” on the home button, but i still have to look at the screen to control anything. This really sucks.
So, my conclusion: The ipod touch really sucks for music. Bad quality, very very bad controls. Video is better but not perfect (the converting to mp4 sucks). I really hope that somebody will look into it and will release a player with better controls and more features (like lyrics, wikipedia page etc.). The hardware is what it is, i’m not sure if it’s possible to use headphones with controls, but this would be great.
Final conclusion on the device:
* good for video, please let it play also non mp4 videos. Xvid/DivX is not that different
* music player sucks
* if you didn’t jailbreaked it: do it! ™ now ™. There are so many great apps you really need.
* price: it’s ok for 16GB and the glorious screen (but i have one fsckn dead pixel, and a bad one, a pixel which is always active)
* software: sucks. mac os x is even worse than windows
* FREE THE DEVICE, suport all kind of formats, like ogg and Xvid, and 3rd party apps. I understand that there should be some kind of security for the touch/iphone, but thats not really an argument! Don’t do the provider crap!
* the backcover is incredible. I really tried to take care of the touch, but after 2 days i had scratches on the back like you played football with it (thats soccer for americans). Because fsckn Amazon could not deliver the protective cover in time i don’t care anymore. It looks like shit now, maybe i should sand it to get a better surface/texture.
Ok, thats all of my first thoughts on the touch. 2nd: i love it. I would buy an iphone if it had 3G. I saw the iphone in .us and edge is so fsckn slow, it feels like gprs in europe. So please bring out a new one with 3G. I don’t care if i have to recharge it every day, as long it’s lasting a day. And as long as the great iphone/ipod touch community crack all releases of the firmware i’m even happy with it … Sure, some kind of free would be nice, and i totally understand that the fw schould be restricted in some kind (like the frequency stuff), but a VM bound to the OS could make it much much better.
Last one: application of the device: the last.fm app. They still have not all features, i guess because the opening was quite new, but still it really rocks. Good work, not many features are missing, nice UI, keep up the good work!
… in freedom. Yesterday we had the “Jungesellenabschiedsparty” for Duncan. It was really fun, first we had a BBQ at the Theodor Heuss bridge and we where all pretty drunken. Of course this was not enough, after finishing all the beer, 4 bottles of Pisca (Piss Cola) we lost Will already and we went with him home.
A good move, so i could go with a taxi to the Kaiserburg, aka Tscheche. We had again a few beer, met Duncan’s Cousin and than went to the Coyote Bar after it. Fuck, that was really awesome. I never thought that i will go there, even it’s right the next door to our favorite eating place in the morning. So i often went by there, but always thought wtf!?. Well, it’s a typical disco, but with dancers on the table! Yeah, it was hot, and at one time one of the hot dancers grabbed my head, pulled it back and gave me some stuff, dunno, i guess it was Tequila … i probably drank the whole bottle. Unfortunately they closed sometime, and i went with cwh to the Mata Hari Bar …
